| I'm a woman living a dream God planted in my heart years ago.
I’ve always inhaled books, and as a homeschooled teen decided to try my hand at writing. At that time, historical fiction was about all that was available in the Christian market, so that’s what I wrote. These first efforts are fortunately lost to the ages, though my Dad is certain he can find them on a hard drive somewhere. Can you hear my relief that he has too many computers laying around to easily locate those stories?!?!
For years I asked God if this dream of writing was from Him. Or was it something I should kill? My life was full. I went to college (Go Huskers!), moved to the Washington, DC area, married the man of my dreams, worked in the non-profit world, went to George Mason Law School at night while working, and then started having children. My life was far from empty, but the dream wouldn’t die. Instead, each time when I pulled it out and asked God what to do, He’d whisper to place it back on the shelf. Then I followed my husband to Indiana. Talk about starting over!
In 2005 we attended a book signing at our local Christian bookstore, Carpenter's Son, www.carpentersson.com. The rest, as they say, is history. There I met my dear friend Colleen Coble (www.colleencoble.com). When my husband shared this dream with her, God said run! And that’s what I’ve been doing every since.
I returned to my historical roots and passion for World War Two. My first book, Canteen Dreams, released in October 2007 from Barbour's Heartsong Presents line followed by Sandhill Dreams in May 2008 and Captive Dreams in September 2008. Each of these historical romances tells a homefront story from World War Two. You could call these the stories of my heart, since I get to tell the world about the wonderful people of my home state, Nebraska.
And I’m thrilled that Love Inspired Suspense published my first romantic suspense Deadly Exposure in May 2008.
I'm currently working on a three-book Ohio World War Two series. It will be a lot of fun! And a sequel to Deadly Judgment. I just turned in the Complete Idiot's Guide to Business Law. Please pray that God would give me the vision He has for my writing.
I'm also an attorney, wife, mom, women's ministry leader, and all around crazy woman. Crazy about God, my husband, and my kids, that is.
In my "spare" time I serve as publicity officer for American Christian Fiction Writers (www.acfw.com) and adviser to the Indiana chapter.
I can’t wait to follow God down this road. It’s a crazy journey, but wherever He leads, I want to follow!
Please feel free to drop me an email at cara@caraputman.com. I love to hear from my readers!
